natureofmercury is derived from the phrase 'of a mercurial nature', interpreted as an ability to be open-minded and malleable.
It is simultaneously a fashion brand as it is an enablement to my way of thinking.
This began as a graduate collection in 2022 entitled 'The Nature of Mercury'. It covered the idea of masking in queerness, explored tangibly through researching survival instincts in the animal & human kingdoms, i.e; camouflage/reflection, distortion, self-enlargement, mimicry.
After I had settled in Meeanjin, Australia, natureofmercury truly began in April of 2024, with the AsWeWatchTheWorldGoBy show. Held in Dunedin, this was a showcase of 30 local designers within Aotearoa.
The collection 'LONGLINE' aimed to highlight craftsmanship, emphasising the importance of quality in luxury.
In the second half of 2024, Practice Studio and Elsurgio Duarte hosted the PS Independent Designer Runway. This was an opportunity for 15 local creatives to showcase 2 looks each.
